As a small business owner, you’ll appreciate it isn’t always easy to stay productive. No matter where you work or how your home environment looks, you’ll always find there are things to take your focus away from your work and onto other things – it’s why many business owners are searching for productivity tips online!

But if you want to stay efficient and effective in your work, you do need to stay productive – and that isn’t always easy if you’re not sure what to do. So here are some productivity tips that will help you ramp up your levels of productivity during your working day.

Productivity Tips for the entrepreneur

#1: Minimise distractions

From phone notifications and open website tabs, through to social media notifications and family members, do what you can to minimise anything that is going to distract you from your work.

#2: Use systems and routines wherever you can

This helps to cut down how much thinking time you need for a task. Have checklists, templates and cheat sheets to help you complete tasks, so you don’t have to worry about the next steps.

#3: Batch tasks together

Look to complete similar tasks at the same time, so you’re minimising how much time it takes to switch between tasks and programs.

#4: Automate recurring tasks

Whether you’re regularly posting to social media, or needing to send out contracts and canned email responses, automation can really help you stay productive.

#5: Take regular breaks

If you don’t, you’ll struggle to stay alert and focused.

#6: Close your email tab when you’re working

You’ll be amazed at how distracting and attractive those email notifications are! Instead of leaving your emails open, opt to check it 2-3 times throughout the day.

#7: Set boundaries for your working day

And let everyone know when you are and aren’t available for a chat, quick phone call or quick visit. But in the same vein, make sure you truly switch off from work, when your working day is over too!

#8: Plan your day, the night before

Set aside 5-10 minutes at the end of each day, to plan out your tasks for tomorrow. This will help you start the day focused and productive.

#9: Do something every day that takes you towards your bigger goal

This will help keep you focused and on track with your big vision goals, but it also helps you stay motivated and productive with them too.

#10: Never multitask

Each task on your list deserves your best efforts and your undivided attention. If you attempt to multitask, the task will take longer than needed and you’ll struggle to give it your all.

As a small business owner, you know how important it is that you stay productive and on task – but it can be easy to get distracted, especially when you work from home. But by following the above productivity tips you’ll ensure you’re staying efficient and effective with your work, as well as focused and productive during every working day – no matter where you work or who’s in your working environment.
